Dr. Zehentmayr is a certified radiation oncologist (Austrian board exam 2009) and Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Department of Radiation Oncology, Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg, Austria. His clinical research focus is on lung cancer (especially non-small cell lung cancer) and high-dose thoracic radiation combined with immunotherapy. He has gained expertise in the field of microRNAs as a prediction tool for radiation treatment outcome.  He heads the thoracic radiation oncology section at the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg.

Dr. Zehentmayr was trained at the University of Vienna, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, UMC St. Radboud Nijmegen, and the Gray Cancer Institute, Oxford University. In 2006 he was accepted for the radiation biology program at the Gray Cancer Institute (Oxford University) gaining an MSc (Distinction) from the University College London in 2007. He finished his residency in 2009, thereafter he has been working as a consultant at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich and the Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg. Since 2015 he is the head of the Austrian Thoracic Radiation Oncology Working Party, which currently runs a nationwide registry on non-small cell lung cancer stage UICC III.

Dr. Zehentmayr is a member of several national and international scientific societies and forms part of the Austrian radiation oncology board exam committee.
