The term liquid biopsy is a fairly recent addition to the scientific literature (1,2) and was originally defined as “A test made on a sample of blood to determine the presence of either circulating tumor cells (CTCs) or circulating DNA fragments (cfDNA) from a tumour circulating in the blood”.
