Abstract

Background: To investigate the demographics and recurrence rate of patients who underwent accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) with high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy at Scripps Clinic.
Methods: This was a single institution retrospective chart review of female patients with early stage breast cancer who were treated at the Scripps Clinic. A total of one hundred and fifty female patients were treated with APBI between the years of 2002–2013.
Results: The majority of patients, 73.3%, treated at our institution had stage I breast cancer. The rate of local recurrence at one year post treatment was 1.36%. The recurrence rate for breast cancer at any site was found to be 5.44% with a minimum of one year follow up.
Conclusions: The rate of local recurrence with at least one year of follow up for patients is similar to other previously published studies using APBI.
